๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿช‘ Storing Furniture

Empty the contents of wardrobes, drawers and cupboards to protect the shelving and structure of these items. Clothing and personal goods should be packed in strong secure cartons with some naphthalene, mothballs or similar product to protect and maintain their condition.

Where possible remove the legs from items of furniture e.g.. bed bases, tables etc. to avoid damage and save space. Put screws, and any other connectors loosened in the disassembling, into a small plastic bag. Label the bag, and tape it to the piece it belongs to. Vacuum food crumbs from lounges to prevent attracting vermin.

๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ” Storing Whitegoods

Need to store household whitegoods? Here are a few tips for storing:

Fridges/Freezers

Fridges and freezers should be thoroughly dry and clean before storing. Whilst in storage the door should be secured slightly ajar.

Ensure you defrost and clean out your fridge first. A deodoriser placed inside fridges or freezers is also a good idea to maintain freshness. Don't place items inside fridges or freezers as the shelves and linings can be easily marked and damaged.

Washing Machines/Tumble Dryers

Ensure you wipe away any detergent or residue after you last use your washing machine. Also ensure to wipe down and dry the interior and any hose coupling areas to reduce the chance of mould.

Tumble dryers should also be allowed to dry for several days prior to storage and have their lint filter cleaned. As with fridges and freezers, doors should be left slightly ajar on washing machines and tumble dryers in storage.

๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ”Planning Your Storage Space

As a general rule place large, heavy items that you can stack upon at the rear of the unit. Then work forwards and upwards with lighter, fragile items. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front of the unit. Depending on the goods you have stored, you may need to allow for walk ways.

Packing in professional storage cartons will make the stowing and unpacking easier and safe, saving you time and worry. Professional packing and the storage accessories will provide your goods with the preparation they need for storage and maintain their condition for the term of storage. Label or number all your boxes and cartons.

Stack sensibly - place the heaviest boxes on the bottom and the lightest on top. Consider what items you will need to access on a regular basis. Keep those things at the top of boxes and those boxes at the front of the unit.

Finally, make a list of what you've stored in each container then keep a copy at home and leave a second in the unit itself.
